WATERMELON J-E-L-L-O

August 8, 2016

This was a fun little experiment to do with your kiddos! It took a long time to set, but the look on their faces when we cut up the watermelon and the jello stayed put, was priceless! There are treats in life that I can't keep from my kids 100% of the time. Home made warm chocolate chip cookies, roasted marshmallows on the fire and jello are things I want my children to experience. If it doesn't happen with me, I am not naive enough to think they won't experience these fun things somewhere else. Julia Child says it best, "Moderation, even in moderation". Enjoy this super fun watermelon jello!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 Watermelon shell, cleaned of all the fruit(I gave the watermelon half to my kids to dig out with spoons and eat).

  • 8 packages of watermelon jello (or any red jello)

  • 5 C boiling water

METHOD

  1. Add 8 packages of jello to a large bowl.

  2. Add hot water to jello and mix until all of the crystals have been dissolved (about 2-4 min).

  3. Carefully pour the jello into the hollowed out watermelon shell and transfer to the fridge.

  4. Give the jello atlas 2 hrs to set. We waited 4 hours until the jello was very hard and wasn't too Jiggly and didn't stick to your fingers. I would suggest making this at night or first thing in the morning to allow enough time for it to stick.

  5. Cut the jello in 1.5 - 2" pieces and serve to excited little children!

*this recipe filled up a large watermelon. You may need more or less jello. I stared with 4 packages of jello and 2 1/2 C of hot water. You can start from there and go up by 2 packages to 1 1/4 C hot water.
