BANANA BREAD {dairy-free}

I have been tweaking my favourite banana bread recipe, trying to swap out some of the unhealthy ingredients (white flour and butter) for more wholesome ones. My husband swears this recipe is the best one yet! It packs in a lot of bananas which keeps the bread (ugh how do I not use the word moist here?!)...moist. I am working on a vegan and gluten free version so stay tuned!


  • 2 C spelt flour (sub your favourite flour)

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt 

  • 1/2 C unsweetened apple sauce 

  • 3/4 C coconut sugar (sub favourite sweetener) 

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 5 overripe bananas, mashed 


  1. ​Preheat oven to 350 C

  2. Mix together in a large bowl, flour, baking soda and salt.

  3. Mix together in a separate bowl, sugar, apple sauce and eggs.

  4. Mash bananas in a small bowl and add to wet ingredients. Stir to combine. 

  5. Mix wet ingredients to dry and stir gently to combine. 

  6. Pour batter into greased loaf pan. Cook 50-60 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. (The top may become dark, and this is OK).

  7. Let it sit in loaf pan for 10 minutes and remove to a wire rack. Enjoy!
