Protect your lips with this Burts Bee's peppermint dupe. I find most of the butters in these recipes on Amazon as well as the Beeswax; however I'm sure your local organic store would carry them as well. You can pour this recipe in old lip balm sticks or even an empty glass container (which held my shea butter before I used it in the recipe) and it works perfectly fine! Let me know what you think of this recipe - would you consider making this yourself? Too much work? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
1 Tbsp beeswax pellets
1 Tbsp Shea Butter (if you are allergic to nuts, you could sub in mango butter instead)
1 Tbsp Cocoa Butter
10 drops of peppermint essential oil
Melt beeswax, shea butter and Cocoa butter in a double boiler or small glass bowl over a small pot of boiling water, stirring constantly until melted.
Remove from heat and add essential oil, stirring to combine.
Use a pipette or dropper (or spoon) into desired container. Do this quickly since it will harden fast.
* If you need to chance consistency ie: more beeswax for a thicker and longer lasting balm, or more butter to keep it creamy. You can re-melt the ingredients and adjust accordingly.
* If you are finding that this is irritating your lips, check that you are not allergic to the essential oil.
* Flakiness can occur, if so begin with a salt lip scrub (coming soon) and follow up with the balm.
